While some TikTok users gain traction for their ability to trend set or be funny, others use the platform to tell stories that are sometimes horrific. Lexi Weinbaum, who has been on the platform since 2020 and describes herself as a "victim advocate," gained traction on TikTok in 2023 for doing exactly that.

What happened to Lexi Weinbaum?

In a series of videos posted to TikTok, Lexi said that she went with a female friend over to a male friend's house to smoke weed. She said that she started smoking what she believed to be weed and then blacked out, and when she woke up she was being beaten.

Lexi added that, when she tried to escape, her female friend kicked her down the stairs and she then ran into the street screaming for help.

When Lexi was finally able to flag someone down, though, her friend told them that she was experiencing psychosis. Lexi said that she experienced several seizures and cardiac events as a result of the attack and that her toxicology report revealed that she had ingested opiates. In a follow-up video, Lexi sat with her mother while her mother described the aftermath of the attack.

“I’d never seen you like that in any way,” her mother said of seeing Lexi in the hospital. “You were just out of your mind.”

Following the revelations in this story, many naturally wondered what happened to both Lexi and her attackers following the incident. While Lexi will always be dealing with at least some trauma related to the incident, she has refused to identify the "friends" who attacked her.

Lexi said that her friends were charged for the attack.

Lexi has refused to identify the people who attacked her, but did say that those who had done so did it to blackmail her. She also said that they had been "criminally charged" but that they had not gone to trial.

In follow-up videos, Lexi has continued to refer to this initial incident, but has done so to discuss how she's recovered from it and moved past the trauma it caused her.

“I turned those traumatic events into advocacy,” she said. “First on this platform, and then, eventually, it became my career.”

Lexi is currently working on a book and has become a prominent advocate on behalf of true crime victims. She also founded Sound of Survivors, which is “a platform dedicated to fostering ongoing discussions among survivors and providing essential resources to aid in their healing process.”

Lexi's story is horrifying, especially because it happened at the hands of people she believed to be her friends. Thankfully, she has been able to use her story to help other people and make the best out of a horrific situation.
