One of the prominent storylines in the first season of Netflix's Selling the OC was Tyler Stanaland's close friendships with his colleagues.

During filming, Tyler got a "nosey" from Alexandra "Alex" Hall, and he had to swerve a kiss from Kayla Cardona. At the time when the show was shot, Tyler was married to Pitch Perfect actress Brittany Snow. Some fans (and Tyler's co-star Alexandra Rose) thought it was inappropriate that the ladies were so close to him while he was married.

“I think we’re still navigating our friendship," he told the mag. "Obviously, you see in Season 2 [that] we explore some things. It leads to a steamy moment and I think we’re still kind of trying to figure it out, but we remain really close friends and I don’t have an answer [on where we stand] for you at the moment."

Meanwhile, Alex told Women's Health in September 2023 that the relationship "changed because we kissed." She went on to say: "He poured his heart out. I am not made of stone, [so] things changed." But she also said she had "no regrets" about what went down.

Tyler Stanaland's sexuality was brought into question over "flirtatious" texts.

During Season 3 of Selling the OC, Sean Palmieri dished on the supposed "flirty" texts he received from Tyler around the time he and Brittany split. He also admitted to Ali and Alexandra that he and Tyler would "hang out three times a week" He divulged, "He'd cook me dinners. All these things." But, it appears as though Sean felt he was getting mixed signals from Tyler.

Furthermore, Sean also says he would receive messages from Tyler that said, "It feels like a lifetime if I don't hear from you for a day" and would often include a heart emoji. In a confessional, Tyler responded to that with, "If a heart emoji is inappropriate, then I'm inappropriate with everybody I text."

Given the substantial uncertainty surrounding the texts, it's still hard to decipher what really went down between the two.
