If you’re a United States senator, you’re pulling in $174,000 a year to represent the great people of your state. It seems like a pretty good salary, especially since there’s nothing preventing senators or member of the House from also playing the stock market or keeping the day job as a lawyer.

Senior Unites States senator from the state of New Jersey Bob Menendez is currently on trial for bribery, extortion, fraud, obstruction of justice and acting as a foreign agent. According to prosecutors the senator accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in cash, gold bars, mortgage payments and a luxury car. It seems like $174,000 a year might not be enough for Sen. Bob.

On March 21, 2024, the senator released a nearly 10-minute-long YouTube video proclaiming his innocence and asked for judgment to be withheld. He also brags about the amount of money he's advocated for New Jersey residents, specifically related to Covid and Superstorm Sandy. He also announced, "I am hopeful that my exoneration will take place this summer and allow me to pursue my candidacy as an independent Democrat in the general election."
