It’s fair to say that May 2024 has been a life-changing month for professional golfer Scottie Scheffler and his wife Meredith. In addition to making international news over an unfortunate incident with local law enforcement, Scottie and Meredith had way bigger things on their minds than an early morning traffic jam.

Scottie Scheffler and his wife Meredith were high school sweethearts.

Meredith Scudder and Scottie Sheffler met at Highland Park High School. The couple graduated in 2014 and have been together ever since. In a February 2022 profile in Golf Digest, Meredith said, “At the beginning of high school I always thought he had a super humble ambiance about him, that he was just a really down-to-earth guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously. Even when he had amazing accomplishments, that wasn’t the most important thing about him."

Following high school, the two dated throughout college. Scottie attended the University of Texas and Meredith went to Texas A&M. Both of them graduated in 2018. They got engaged in June 2020 and married on Dec. 4, 2020.

Scottie talked about missing the 2024 Masters if Meredith happened to go into labor. Speaking with a broadcaster about whether he'd stay or go if the child was imminent, The Augusta Chronicle reported the golfer said, "I'll be out of here. I think first child wins over quite a... over many things in my life."

Speaking of winning, Scottie won the 2024 Masters, but he was more excited about becoming a dad. Talking with Golf Digest, he said, "It’s going to be pretty wild. I don’t think it’s hit either of us quite yet but it’s an exciting time for us as a family. It’s been a pretty exciting last seven months or so and we’re looking forward to hopefully getting the baby out of there nice and healthy and with a healthy momma, and then we’ll go from there."

Four days after sharing the baby news, Scottie was arrested on his way to the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville when a prior unrelated incident led to a police zone of interest blocking Scottie’s route. That story is still developing, with the arraignment postponed to June 3. The golfer faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.
