TLC's My 600-Lb Life doesn't just follow the lives of the morbidly obese. It also shows us who they are and their struggles, making us root for every person who asks for Dr. Now's help.

Season 10 introduced us to Nathan Prater, a resident of Palestine, Texas, who began his journey at 607 pounds. Following Dr. Now's plan, Nathan shed enough weight to qualify for weight loss surgery.

However, Dr. Now saw a similar struggle in Nathan's wife, Amber. Though lighter than Nathan at around 500 pounds, her BMI was surprisingly higher. Recognizing the need for intervention, he took her on as a client and asked her to lose 50 pounds to qualify for weight loss surgery. Amber actually revealed that she had previously had weight loss surgery but had gained the weight back, suggesting that she never addressed the underlying issues that caused her food addiction.

After Nathan's surgery, his weight loss started to plateau, and Amber gained a few pounds instead of losing. Dr. Now, concerned about their overall well-being, sent them to therapy. During their sessions with Dr. Paradise, the couple revealed a troubling truth: their physical intimacy was "nonexistent," hinting at deeper marital issues and a lack of mutual respect.

However, the episode ended more positively, as both Nathan and Amber were losing weight and starting to see significant results. The Season 5 premiere of the spinoff series My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?, which aired in May 2024, picked up where they left off. So, how are Nathan and Amber doing with their weight loss goals? We've got an update on them below.

Where is Nathan from 'My 600-Lb Life' now?

Following his weight loss surgery during Season 10 of My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now? Nathan is doing great.

When the show checked back in with him during My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now? he was continuing to lose weight following his surgery. He also had picked up a second job working at a restaurant, which kept him on his feet. However, he still had a huge goal to reach. Nathan had lymphedema, and if he continued to lose weight each month, he would qualify for skin removal surgery, which he desperately needed as he had a large mass hanging from his abdomen that was extremely painful and limited his mobility.

Thankfully, Nathan's perseverance paid off. He reached the weight target for surgery, allowing Dr. Now to remove it, which also helped him lose a few pounds.

We also got an update on his relationship with his stepdaughter, Hannah. When we first met Nathan, they had a strained relationship, and his goal was to repair their relationship and be healthy enough to walk her down the aisle. Now, he's able to do that and then some. They went rock climbing together.

The episode concluded with Nathan around the 250s, well on his way to his ultimate goal: reaching under 200 pounds and qualifying for a second skin removal surgery. Nathan seemed dedicated to hitting this goal. However, this episode was filmed in 2023.

So, how's Nathan doing in 2024? He remains dedicated to his health and is still working his two jobs. While it's unknown if he achieved his final weight loss surgery, he appears to be doing well. On a happier note, he celebrated his 12th anniversary with Amber in March 2024, but sadly, he also experienced the loss of his mother earlier in the year.

Where is Amber from 'My 600-lb Life' now?

Unfortunately, Amber's weight loss journey paled in comparison to Nathan's. When she appeared on My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?, her weight continued to fluctuate. She'd gain a few pounds, then lose a few, but never achieved the consistent weight loss that Dr. Now wanted to see, which was to lose 50 pounds, putting her at 455 pounds, to qualify for her second weight loss surgery.

Amber attributed some of the weight loss struggles to stress and insomnia, but other times, she wasn't sure why she wasn't shedding pounds and was frustrated. Dr. Now pushed her to go back to therapy and have individual sessions with Dr. Paradise to address why she was retaining her weight.

In her session with Dr. Paradise, he posited that Amber was holding onto the weight due to sexual trauma in the past. You see, when Amber got her first weight loss surgery as a teen, she became a victim of sexual trauma, which made her subconsciously associate weight loss with negative experiences. Dr. Paradise also observed that when Nathan lost weight, Amber focused all her energy on supporting him and neglected her own needs.

By the end of the episode, Amber still hadn't lost the weight to qualify for weight loss surgery.

So, where is Amber in 2024? Similar to Nathan, it's unclear if she hit her goal and lost enough weight to qualify for weight loss surgery. However, in April 2024, she posted a Facebook status noting that she had lost 10 pounds within three weeks, which definitely seems like a step in the right direction. More importantly, she seemed more positive and motivated than she was in the past.

Not to mention, her marriage with Nathan couldn't seem better. The best part is that they continue to root for each other on their weight loss journeys.

New episodes of My 600-Lb Life: Where Are They Now? air at 8 p.m. EST on Wednesdays on TLC.
