Laz Alonso's Weight Loss Is So Significant, Fans Think 'The Boys' Was Recast

When fans see Laz Alonso, who plays Mother's Milk in The Boys on Season 4, they may notice that he looks pretty different.
Indeed, the actor lost a fairly significant amount of weight in between filming the third and fourth seasons of the Amazon Prime Video show.
After some prompting from fans, Laz talked about his weight loss, including what he did to make it happen. Read on for the full details on his new look.

So, what's the deal with Laz Alonso's weight loss? He said he'd been enjoying "too much pizza."
The Boys star opened up about his weight loss in an Instagram post shared in December 2023. When a fan said Laz had "lost some serious weight," the star replied in the comments that he "had to trim it down, fam! Got carried away [with] too much pizza."
In addition to curbing his pizza habit, the actor also explained to his fans that he took a DNA test to help him understand how to best nourish his body.
"Anything that you put in your body that your body doesn’t need, your body is just gonna excrete, but it just puts your body under unnecessary stress, having to filter out stuff that you didn’t need in the first place," Laz said.
He further claimed, "The DNA test was something that literally revolutionized the way that I look at supplementation and being healthy because I’m only putting in my body what my body is deficient in."
Laz previously explained in a 2017 Facebook post that getting back to the shape he was in during his 20s has been a longtime goal. "This daily #HIIT workout is showing results fast! Only a month in and dropped over an inch off my waist. Gonna go harder this month and get my 20s waist back!" the actor captioned a photo of himself post-workout.
Fans thought Mother's Milk was recast due to Laz Alonso's weight loss — and something else.
When the trailer for Season 4 of The Boys was released, fans couldn't help but notice that not only did Laz cut weight, but gone is another trademark feature of his look.
Indeed, the star's facial hair has been replaced by a clean shaven jawline.
In the comments of an Instagram post that also revealed his fresh-faced appearance, fans had some fun with Laz.
"Can't hear you without the facial hair," joked one fan.
"Bro, we need the goatee back," someone else implored, while yet another fan ribbed the star, "Seriously who tf is this guy posing as M.M."
Some fans were not loving the new look, with one snarking, "Mother's milk deficiency," and someone else joking, "I think his mother just stopped giving him milk."
Well, you can't please everyone, right? In any event, we think Laz looks great and can't wait for everything to come in Season 4 of The Boys. Catch the first three episodes streaming together starting on June 13, and subsequent episodes coming out each Thursday until July 18.
