There are many Yankees fans who would consider Derek Jeter to be baseball royalty. With five championships under his belt, the man's on-field exploits, as well as his life off the field (like the Turn 2 Foundation charity), have rendered him one of the most beloved captains in franchise history.

In fact, there are probably a lot of folks who would refer to him as a "King of New York," and that name is all the more fitting when you consider that he once owned a castle — one that he just recently sold.

In a press release shared by Top Ten Real Estate Deals, we've just learned that Derek Jeter's family castle was recently purchased. The outlet wrote that while the property was listed at $6.3 million, its final sale price hasn't been released yet to the public.

The news comes around the same time other celebrities have purportedly been finding it difficult to sell their sprawling estates. Jim Carrey's nearly 11,000-square-foot Hollywood hideout was listed for $28.9 million in February 2023. By June 3, 2024, a little over a year later, the price was rolled back to $21.9 million.

The New York Post wrote that the sale of Carrey's home occurred around the time California's Mansion tax was implemented. The outlet notes that "this transfer tax imposes a 4 percent levy on property sales above $5 million and a 5.5 percent charge on sales over $10 million."

According to Yahoo, New York State also hits residences considered to be mansions with extra surcharges, but the capped amount of additional charges is 1.6 percent less than what the state of California imposes: "The state of New York charges residential real estate buyers an extra tax on sales of $1 million. The surcharge starts at 1 percent if you buy a home for $1 million to $2 million but gets progressively higher, capping out at 3.9 percent if you purchase a property for $25 million or more," the outlet penned.

Tiedemann Castle has been in Jeter's family for decades.

Dr. Rudolph Gudewill commissioned the Tiedemann Castle in the early 1900s, situating the property right on Greenwood Lake where New York State borders New Jersey. Gudewill resided there until his death, and in 1952, Julia and John Tiedemann of New Jersey purchased the estate where they and their 13 children lived.

One of those 13 kids was William Connors, Derek Jeters's maternal grandfather. Jeter, who is originally from Pequannock Township in Jersey, spend many of his summers as a child playing sports and swimming at Tiedemann Castle, as well as partaking in his fair share of chores.

The Tiedemanns owned the castle property up until the year Jeter would win his first MLB championship ― 1996. When it finally became available for purchase again in 2002, Jeter nabbed it up and began a lengthy and pricey renovation/restoration of the premises.

As it turns out, Jeter wasn't the only Yankees legend who enjoyed visiting Greenwood Lake — it was also purportedly a favorite spot of the Big Bambino Babe Ruth himself. The area sports a seven-mile long lake, a rural ambiance, and tons of restaurants that guests from New Jersey, Philadelphia, and New York City visit often.

The press release for the sale touts Tiedemann castle as sporting many similar design cues one would find in "European Castles," and while there's no mention of a moat filled with alligators, the nearly 9,000-square-foot complex is technically rocking two castles: a master structure and a guest one.

There's an infinity pool, six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, five half bathrooms, numerous stone fireplaces, four kitchens, a game room, a formal dining area, a replica of the statue of liberty, and a family room with a bar.

If you miss watching Jeter in action, although he's been retired for some time, you can enjoy watching the five-time World Series winner operate as an MLB studio analyst for Fox-TV.
