A man's decision to throw away a reusable glass lotion dispenser from Anthropologie became the subject of a TikTok posted by McKizzy (@mckizzy7), who ended up sparking a debate on the way men live versus women.

Numerous commenters seemed to invoke the "Mama's Boy" phenomenon — a subset of men who grew up thinking that certain chores and various tasks just seemingly get taken care of by themselves without anyone else putting in the work, to ensure they're done in silence.

"So me and my boyfriend just moved in together and I have a hand lotion and a hand soap dispenser in the bathroom from Anthropologie. I walked in the other day and the lotion dispenser is just in the trash can," McKizzy says into the camera at the start of her video.

"So I asked him, I was like hey, why did you do that?"

His response wasn't one that seemed as if it was born of malice or negligence: "And he says, oh well it was out of lotion, I just thought you were gonna buy another one."

"Oh, yeah, yeah, now that you say that that makes sense, thank you," she says into the camera.

Browsing through Anthropologie's collection online, it's clear to see that the store has a selection of "living" home accessories, including reusable bathroom containers that are clearly meant to be refilled.

In fact, none of the dispensers seem like any product that's meant to simply be tossed once their contents are finished, which is probably why there were so many people who responded with shock in response to McKizzy's clip.

She added in a caption for the video that she wasn't the only person who thought his decision to toss away what is clearly a pricey, decorative, and reusable lotion dispenser was whacky — his mother thought so too: "When I told his mom she said I’m sorry that I failed you."

One person responded to McKizzy's video writing: "WEAPONIZED INCOMPETENCE."

Someone else also expressed their befuddlement with McKizzy's boyfriend's decision to simply toss a soap and lotion dispenser away as if it was a disposable single-use plastic:

"Just went and looked at Anthropologie’s soap and lotion dispensers ... WHY WOULD HE THROW THAT," they said.

Other users on the app began referencing other slice-of-life vignettes that demonstrate the differences between male and female energies when they're sharing the same living spaces.

Like this one person who discussed the tale of a husband who had no idea that his significant other was performing various acts of upkeep around the house, taking all of the work for granted: "It’s like that couple who moved into a place with a built-in soap dispenser. After months of living there, the husband's like, that thing has infinite soap, it never runs out. And she just rolled her eyes."

Another person shared a man's epic cooking fail in using a popular kitchen appliance: "Not me but I just saw the video of the girl's husband who made dinner in a Crock-Pot without the pot in it. Only the Crock."

Someone else said: "I asked him to put out a candle after we moved in together, stopped him just before he poured the melted wax down the kitchen sink drain."

Then there were folks who just weren't in the mood to wash dishes sometimes. So instead of paying someone to do their household chores, or suck it up and wash them himself, the person this TikTok commenter was formerly dating thought it'd be a good idea to simply throw them in the trash: "When my ex would just throw out our dishes if he didn’t want to clean them. Like the nice glass bakeware."

After hearing McKizzy's anecdote, however, one person said that it made them appreciate their own interactions with their boyfriend and his earnestness in ensuring he wasn't throwing away something he shouldn't be tossing: "Now I am appreciating my bf asking me a thousand times if something is garbage or not before making the decision to throw it out."

Have you ever encountered similarly frustrating situations with your significant other? Like this woman who replaced her guy's tea for years, and he just thought the boxes lasted that long on their own?
